Bowen, 100, of Saranac died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996. She was born Jan. 6, 1896 in Gaines Township, the daughter of Byron J. and Maybelle (June) Friend. She married Fred C. Bowen Sr. on June 1, 1921 in Ionia. She owned and operated Bowen Service at Saranac Corners for 22 years. She was a member of the Saranac Community Church, life member of the Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary of Saranac and the Rebecca’s. She is survived by her son, Fred (Bea) Bowen Jr. of Saranac; daughter, Jane Ann (Jerry) Gallagher of Belding; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on June 2, 1977; and by her sister, Mildred, in 1946. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Saranac Community Church with Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Iris Fund or the Saranac Community Church.
