Lowell Ledger – 29 December 1898
Alpheus Bowen, an old resident of this place, who has been sick for several 
months died, Dec. 18 at the age of 74 years.  He was born Dec. 3, 1824, in 
Orange Co., N. Y.  He came to Michigan in 1841 with his parents and settled in 
Keene where he remained on the farm for 45 years.  In 1854 he was married to 
Sarah J. Hopkins who died in 1888.  To them were born three sons, Frank, Dell 
and Bert and one daughter, Mrs. D. P. Sayles, who lives at Kalamazoo.  He also 
leaves a brother, Oliver Bowen, and two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Bo Vee of Des 
Moines, Ia., and Mrs. A. C. Lee of Elsie, to mourn his loss.  The funeral was 
held from the Keene Church Sunday, Rev. L .N. Pattison officiating and 
interment in Pinckney cemetery.

A. C. Lee and wife of Elsie came to attend the funeral of her brother, A. 
Bowen, and will remain in Keene a few days to visit relatives.
