Bowen, aged 86, of Saranac, passed away May 23, 2009. He was born March 30, 1923 in Saranac, the son of Howard and Sable (Pinckney) Bowen. He was a graduate of Saranac High School in 1940. Emery married Gladys E. Smith Aug. 28, 1944 in Ionia. He was a Marine Corps SGT in WWII. Emery was a very gifted wood worker even produced grandfather clocks. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Emery was a very loving husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to fish in his pond. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys Bowen of Saranac; son Gary (Kathleen) Bowen of Ionia; daughters Sandra (Jack) Ward of Saranac and Patricia (Patrick) O'Connor of Belding; 11 grandchildren; brother Donald Bowen of Plainwell; sisters Elsie Moore of Saranac and Doris (Robert) Harding of Climax and sister-in-law Mildred Bowen of Belding. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Eula Sullivan, Bernice Swiger and Winona Nummer; 1 brother Everett Bowen and 1 grandson Dwayne Ward. Memorial services will be held Saturday June 6 at 1 p.m. at the Bowen Pond located at 4480 David Hwy. Funeral arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.
