Laurey Lee Bower, 66, of Portland, Mich., passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

She was born on February 18, 1947, in Wayne County, Mich., the daughter of 
Robert and Winifred (Gogarn) Haskins.

Laurey cleaned up at the Ionia County Fair Craft Barn, winning numerous blue 
ribbons. She also judged and showed horses; was State Appaloosa Queen; and 
showed Herford cattle, including her bull “Gus”, who was Reserve National 
Champion. Laurey also enjoyed cooking, crocheting and needle work. Her 
companion, golden retriever, “Jake,” is by her side keeping an eye on her.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are her husband, James Bower; children, Michael (Jenny) Bower and 
Robin (Dan) Riker; brother, Tim (Sharon) Atkinson of Summerville, S. C.; 
brothers-in-law, Dave (Kim) Bower and Dale (Linda) Bower; sisters-in-law, Mary 
Kay (Byron) Kincaid and Karen Halsey.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Lehman 
Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge St. in Portland, with the Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. 
Danielson, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Portland, presiding. 
Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
