Bower Passed Away Mon. Merton E. Bower passed away April 15, 1945, at the age of 66. He was born March 12, 1877, in Odessa township. He attended the Beard school as a boy and finished at the Lake Odessa high school. He became a successful auctioneer as a young man continuing this vocation throughout his life. He was noted for his ability to deliver recitations by famous authors and poets. He is survived by his 95-year-old father John M. Bower, seven children and six grandchildren, his children are Mrs. Madonna Bower Pick of Chicago, Maynard E. Bower of Lansing, Pvt. Harold A. Bower of Cheyenne, Wyo., MT/Sgt. Lawrence Bower, Philippines, T/Sgt. John Bower on Iwo Jima, Levon and Victor Bower in Lake Odessa. There are three sisters Mrs. Jacob J. Griebel, Mrs. George Barker, Mrs. E.J. Murty of Chicago, and a brother Tello Bower at Big Rapids. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the First United Brethren church with the Rev. Paul Olmstead officiating and the Rev. E.A. Shulls assisting. Burial was in Lakeside cemetery. Pall bearers were LeVon, Maynard and Harold Bower, Harold Pick, Gerald Barker and Glenn Hawkins.
