Lake Odessa Wave - September 8, 1905
                           OBITUARY.
   Henry A Bower was born in the state of Vermont October 25, 1822, and died at the
home of his daughter in 
Battle Creek August the 30th 1905.  He was married December 6, 1843, to Miss Anna
McDonald, who died 
Sept. 12, 1890.  To them were born seven children, three of whom are dead.  Those
surviving are Samuel 
Bower of California, John Bower of Lake Odessa, Mrs. F. F. Otto of Battle Creek, and
Mrs. T. F. Barkdull of Lake 
Odessa.  He came to Michigan from Canada in the fall of 1854 when the country was
new, and settled in 
Woodland, Barry Co., where he lived until the fall of 1872 when he moved to Odessa
which was still his home 
at the time of death.
   In October 1904, he went to California to spend the winter with a son, then in
the spring he came home for a 
short visit, then returned to California intending to remain one year, but soon
after arriving there he was 
afflicted with rheumatism and not getting any better, returned to Michigan hoping to
regain his lost health but 
such was not to be as he was stricken with typhoid fever shortly after arriving at
the home of his daughter 
and although everything possible was done for him, he gradually failed and just 5
weeks and 4 days from the 
day he arrived home he passed peacefully away.
   He became a Christian early in his life and so remained to the time of his death,
was a member of the U. B. 
church since 1876 but for the last few years and during his stay in California he
attended the Methodist 
church.
   He leaves besides the children mentioned above, twelve grand grandchildren, eight
great grand children 
and two sisters one living in Canada and one in New Mexico.
