He was born in Lake Odessa Nov. 17, 1931, the son of Ralph and Edna (Carpenter) Bowerman. Mr. Bowerman was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and a brother-in-law. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Agnes Hyland; daughter, Deanna Currier of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; and sisters, Marie Haskins and “Herbie” and Lillian Buxton, both of Lake Odessa. Also surviving are six stepchildren, James R. (Penny) Hyland, Jack E. (Sandy) Hyland, John “Michael” (Janet) Hyland, Joseph S. Hyland, Toni R. (Thomas) Kissane, and Tobi L. (Robert) Barton, all of Portland; seven step-grandchildren; 17 step-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted by the Rev. Marilyn V. Danielson, pastor of First Congregational Church, Portland, Oct. 24 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Hone, Portland. Committal followed at Portland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice, 117 N. Depot Street, Ionia, MI 48846; the First Congregational Church Building Fund, 421 E. Bridge Street, Portland, MI 48875; or to the Portland Ambulance Service, 773 E. Grand River Ave., Portland, MI 48875.
