Born in Ionia,MI, the first child of Hugh & Carolyn (Peterson) Bowerman. His early years were filled with farm & 4H adventures with his many first cousins from Charles & Caroline Peterson Clan. He moved to Carson City,Mich. where his Father opened a DeSota dealership in Phil's Junior year of High School. Phil graduated from Carson City-Crystal High School in 1957 when he began working for the family business. Met & married Rosella Springteen of Butternut, MI & raised three sons in the area. In 1960 Phil began working for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He spent most of his career in density testing & retired as Supervisor of Density Technology & a lead nuclear safety officer for the State of Michigan. In retirement Phil & Rosella relocated near Arcadia, Mich., where they grew spruce for Christmas & Landscaping trees at Herring View Tree Farms. Phil was an avid skeet & sporting clays shooter competing around the state & regularly at Kaleva's Big Bear Sportsman's Club & Mission Skeet & Trap (Texas). Survived by his wife, Roseilla Bowerman, sons, Steven P. Bowerman; Kurt (Wendy) Bowerman, grandchildren; Jeremy Bowerman of Alma,MI, Amber Farrar of St.Louis,MI, Kaitlyn Bowerman of Wauwatosa,Wi, Susan DeVries of Augustine, FL & Philip Bowerman of Norman,OK & 8 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, Scott Bowerman, parents Hugh (Daniel & Carolyn (Amelia)Bowerman, Sister Martha Kucks & in-laws Jay & Annis Springsteen. Graveside service will be held at Blaine township Cemetery at 2:30 on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with reception following at the Blaine Twp. Hall on White Owl Road. Memorial contributions can be made to Benzie Shores District Library (Frankfort,MI) or Big Bear Sportsman's Club (Kaleva,MI) Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home of Benzonia,Michigan.
