BOWMAN, 95, died Friday, February 6, at 4 a.m. at the Hawley Convalescent Home in Muir. He was born December 24, 1857, in Auburn, N.Y., son of Mr and Mrs John Bowman. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bolitho of the Lyons Methodist church Monday at 2 p.m. at the Shaw-Rivett funeral home in Muir. Burial will be in Lyons cemetery." DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, Feb. 9, 1953: "Deaths - WILLIAM N. BOWMAN - Funeral services for William Norman Bowman, 95, of Lyons who died at the Hawley Convalescent Home in Muir Friday, February 6, were conducted at the Shaw-Rivett funeral home Monday afternoon. Interment was in Muir cemetery. He was born in Auburn, N.Y., December 24, 1857, son of John and Helen Dougherty Bowman. He came to Michigan when six years of age with his parents and settled in Lyons. In June, 1881, he was married to Katherine Felbel of Lansing. They had a son, Frank, who died at the age of 12, and four daughters, Mrs Nellie Dick of Lansing, Mrs. Iva Tubbs of Milford, Mrs Mabel Fitch of Ovid and Mrs. Grace Sage of Ionia, all of whom survive him. Mrs Bowman died March 31, 1915. In May, 1916, he married Mrs. Marcia Smith of Grand Rapids who died November 13, 1945. He was a wagon maker by trade and for many years made wagons for Dayton Douglas of Muir. Later he worked at Stafford's and Schieldt in Ionia. He was a skilled woodworker and has repaired furniture for people in the Lyons vicinity for years. He lived in his Lyons home 85 years. He had been a patient at the Hawley Convalescent home for two years. Surviving besides the four daughters are 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was a former member of the Lyons Baptist church."
