All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net June 13, 2010, 6:59 pm The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, February 9, 1953 Funeral services for William Norman Bowman, 95, of Lyons who died at the Hawley Convalescent Home in Muir Friday, February 6, were conducted at the Shaw-Rivett funeral home Monday afternoon. Interment was in Muir cemetery. He was born in Auburn, N.Y., December 24, 1857, son of John and Helen Dougherty Bowman. He came to Michigan when six years of age with his parents and settled in Lyons. In June 1881 he was married to Katherine Felbel of Lansing. They had a son, Frank, who died at the age of 12, and four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Luck of Lansing, Mrs. Iva Tubbs of Milford, Mrs. Mabel Fitch of Ovid and Mrs. Grace Sage of Ionia, all of whom survive him. Mrs. Bowman died March 31, 1915. In May 1918 he married Mrs. Marcia Smith of Grand Rapids who died November 13, 1945. He was a wagon maker by trade and for many years made wagons for Dayton Douglas of Muir. Later he worked at Stafford’s and Schied’s in Ionia. He was a skilled woodworker and has repaired furniture for people in the Lyons vicinity for years. He lived in his Lyons home 55 years. He had been a patient at the Hawley Convalescent home for two years. Surviving besides the four daughters are 8 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was a former member of the Lyons Baptist church.
