He was born March 9, 1932 in Ionia the son of Jay C. and Marjorie (VanRiper) Bowne. He graduated from Ionia High School where he lettered in all sports. Bob also attended Michigan State University. He married Marjorie Long July 4, 1953 in Massachusetts. Bob served three years in the US Army Intelligence during the Korean War. He owned American Chemical Supply with his two brothers for 25 years. He and his wife Marjorie started B & M Sales in 1978. Bob and his family enjoyed many years on the family’s cabin cruiser “African Queen.” Bob enjoyed being with people and was a successful salesman and Christian fundraiser. Bob loved the Lord and had dedicated his life to doing his work many years ago. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and also sang in the church choir. He is survived by his loving wife Marge Bowne of Ionia; son Jeffrey (Connie) Bowne of Ionia; brother William (Judith) Bowne of Ionia; sisters Beverly (Martin) Watson of West Virginia, Joan (Wesley) Smith of Mt. Morris; sister-in- law, Gladys Bowne of Ionia; grandchildren, Ryan Bowne, Stephanie Bowne, Jennifer Bowne, Joe Struble, Katie Struble; great grandchildren, Brittany, Jade and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Brian in 2000, one brother Clement Jay (Jim) Bowne. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Marty Culver officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lake funeral Home in Ionia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
