Boyden passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, aged 77 years, 10 months and 6 days. Mr. Boyden had been in ill health for some months past, and about two weeks ago was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Stevens, where he was cared for until it was decided to take him to the Michigan Soldiers’ Home, where he was taken October 30th. The trip was too much for his frail constitution and death came two days later. Deceased was born at Corfu, N.Y., December 25th, 1839, and came to Lyons township in 1856. He enlisted on September 5th, 1861, in Co. D. 9th Michigan Infantry, and served with distinction throughout the war. He served his company through all the ranks from private, until he was honorably discharged as Orderly Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Miss Ida E. Bennett in October, 1866, and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Brownell, now of Grand Haven. The body was brought to Lyons on Saturday, and funeral services were held from the home on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L.G. McAndrew, pastor of the Muir Presbyterian church. Music was furnished by Frank Strong, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. W.A. Grant. The out-of town comrades to attend the funeral were Horace Glines, J.W. Klotz, Wm. G. Miner and John VanHorn of Portland; Jas. Jourdan of Orange; Dell Bunker of Beloit, Kansas; Jos. Hanchet of Sheridan. The above comrades, with Capt. B.H. Stevens of this village, were all of the same company and regiment, and with the exception of Mr. Bunker, all were of the original company and enlisted at the same time.
