Diane was born in Grand Rapids on Feb. 26, 1954, the daughter of Roger and Betty Kauffman, and grew up in Lake Odessa on the family farm. She graduated in 1972 from Lakewood High School and later completed a bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Davenport University in Grand Rapids. She had always aspired to become an attorney. After moving to Florida and working in a number of management positions, she enrolled in law school and graduated in 2001 with honors from Stetson University Law School in St. Petersburg. She was an accomplished and highly respected attorney in the Sarasota area and her family was extremely proud of her success. Diane (Di) will be remembered as having a warm heart, independent spirit and a wonderful laugh. She enjoyed being a part of a large family and adored the company of her closest friends. Di was an avid reader and rarely seen without her nose in a book. She particularly loved perusing cookbooks and magazines in hopes of discovering the next creative cooking adventure. Though many referred to Di as the "casserole queen", everyone requested that she cook when they visited and she treasured cooking Sunday dinners for her mom and dad. When her sisters visited, they always enjoyed a laid back "mani-pedi" afternoon together along with an occasional shopping spree to find the latest "must have" shoes. Di relished trips to Las Vegas, Cher concerts and traveling with her dearest high school friend, Linda Schoonerman. As an animal lover, she was especially fond of her two adopted dogs, Scooter and Prince. Diane is survived by her parents Roger and Betty Kauffman; son, Jeremy (Charlotte) Pisciotta; two brothers Dennis (Karen) Kauffman and David (Melanie) Kauffman; two sisters Darlene Kauffman and Deb Kauffman; two grandsons Ryan and Nathan Pisciotta; 15 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Her premature son Derek Carr, brother Daniel Kauffman, and niece Tadum Thole preceded her in death. Rather than a traditional funeral, the immediate family will gather for a private celebration of life honoring Diane. The family welcomes extended family and friends to visit and reminisce on Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the home of David and Melanie Kauffman, 6360 Peddler Lake Road, Clarksville, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Di's favorite charity, the Humane Society of Sarasota County, 2331 15th St., Sarasota, FL 34237.
