Ionia Standard, 13 Apr 1917

A mother’s pension was granted Wed. afternoon in probate court to Mrs. Susie
Bozung of Keene township, mother of nine sons, ranging from 18 years downward in
age.  Two of the sons are 17 and 18 years old and are already earning something;
the other seven (Jerome, Lewis, Anthony, William, Paul, Herman and Richard) are
still dependent on their mother.  The father died on March 10 after an illness
of three years, during which the home was mortgaged and all available resources
were exhausted.  The family was destitute, and when they appeared in the court
today they were wearing borrowed clothing.  New clothing was bought for them at
once, and they start fair with an income hereafter of $21.00 a month $3.00 for
each boy.
