He was born on February 17, 1874 in Oakland County, son of Frederick and Harriet Brace. While driving a milk wagon in Evanston, Ill., he got “Western Fever” and moved to Denver. A younger brother then invited him to Alaska where he started prospecting for gold, and spent 16 years there during the 1900 Gold Rush. Mr. Brace had lived in Belding vicinity for the past 46 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lowell. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Sage of R3 Belding, two nephews, Russell Sage also of R3, and Howard of Santa Monica, California, and a niece Mattie Turner of Silver Cliff, Colorado. Funeral services were held Monday, October 3, at 2 p.m. at the Ellis Funeral Chapel with Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating. Burial was in the Otisco Cemetery.
