Ionia county’s 1975 New Year’s baby, Sarah Dorothy Helen Brainard, at the age 
of three years, was not able to survive heart surgery Thursday and died early 
Friday in a Grand Rapids hospital.  Sarah was born January 4, 1975, with a 
heart defect.  She had open heart surgery when 38 days old and was hospitalized 
for several months before coming home.  

She was an only child and is survived by her parents, Wayne D. and Sharon 
(Truesdell) Brainard of 5300 Olmstead road and several aunts and uncles.

Prior to entering Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids to repair a left 
pulmonary valve, she had been making her home with foster parents at 6652 
Hawley highway, Belding.

Miss Brainard is at the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir, unitl11 a.m. Monday when 
services are to be at Shiloh Community church at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. 
Kenneth Harger, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Norman Mincemoyer of North 
Plains Community church.

The family will received friends and relatives at the Muir chapel from 7 to 
8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Burial is at 
North Plains cemetery.
