She was born Lois Jane Wilson on Sept. 1, 1918 in Ionia, the daughter of D. Lee Wilson and the granddaughter of Riley N. Wilson, pioneer merchant and deputy sheriff at Sebewa Corners and later in Ionia. She began teaching in Kent City in 1939-40 and 1940-41 and she was invited to the 50th class reunion for the class of ’42 in 1992. She was the widow of Elwood M. Brake Jr. and is survived by their six children, Michael, Brenda, Max, Bruce, James Brake and Virginia Davis. She was cousin to Wilson Dalzell of Ionia, whose widow, Greta, recently died also. Jane and Elwood were active in the Ionia First United Methodist Church and the Mesa First United Methodist Church. He was chairman of the building committee when the annex was built on the Ionia church in the early 1950s. Elwood was an officer of Ionia County National Bank, and after the November elections in 1952, they moved to Washington, D.S., so he could serve as chief-of-staff to Congressman Alvin M. Bentley Jr. They never returned to Ionia. Elwood was the first cousin of Grayden Slowins, of Sebewa Township. Those wishing may contact Grayden at (517) 566-8284.
