Brandner, 63, died suddenly at the Ionia Community hospital Monday morning a few hours after he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. Taken ill last Wednesday with a hard cold, he developed pneumonia during the week end and was taken to the hospital Sunday morning. His condition at that time was considered serious but his death was a shock to his family who were called to his bedside at about 2 a.m. Born February 25, 1878, at Waterloo, Wisconsin, the son of Nicholas and Anna Brandner, he came to Ionia in 1899. He was first employed at the Bedford jewelry shop and later opened his own shop where the Bowersox jewelry store is now located. He operated the Brandner jewelry shop for 25 years. During the past few years he has been employed as laundry supervisor at the Michigan reformatory. For a brief time during the last few years he was employed as a traffic officer in Ionia city. He married Elizabeth Abbott, who survives, and the couple has lived their entire married life in Ionia. For the past fourteen years they have made their home on Union hill. They made their home for a number of years in the house at Union and Summit streets and for the past few years have lived at Union and High streets. Surviving are the wife, Elizabeth; one son, George, of Ionia, and one grandson, Larry, of Ionia; also one sister, Mrs. Emma Torpy, of Minocqua, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be conducted from the Myers funeral home on East Main street at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Henry A. Hanson of the St. John’s Episcopal church will officiate.
