Brandt, 52, of Route 1, Portland, died unexpectedly Saturday evening in a car enroute to a physician’s office in Portland. He was employed by the Ionia County Road Commission. Coroner Dale Kauffman said death was caused from a heart ailment. Mr. Brandt was born April 5, 1900, in Germany, the son of Fred and Augusta (Ropkie) Brandt, and came with his parents to Michigan when eight years old. He had lived in this area and Woodland vicinity most of his life. Surviving are a son, Robin, of Muskegon; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Clem of Hastings and Mrs. Allen Corey of Grand Ledge; four brothers, Frank and Ernest of Portland; Robert of Lake Odessa and William of Woodbury. The body was removed to the Pickens funeral chapel where services were held Tuesday. Burial was in Woodland Memorial cemetery. Rev. M. H. Dawson officiated.
