Brennan died at 3:10 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, 20 minutes after being admitted to the Ionia hospital. His body was half severed, cutting him on the right side from the stomach to his spine. He was conscious up until the time of his death. Hospital attendants said that just before Branton died he asked to be turned over on his left side, stating that he was in great pain. The accident occurred shortly after 2:00 o’clock while Branton and several neighbors were buzzing wood near the Dye School. Charles Selleck, who was near the scene of the accident, stated that he did not see Branton fall on the buzz saw but was attracted by his cries for help. He said that he pulled Branton from the saw and then went for a doctor. Others working near the buzz rig were Lyle Minikey, Philip Wilson and Russell Gilmore. The word was being cut for Selleck. Branton was brought to the Ionia hospital in an ambulance. Doctors who attended Branton were Dr. J.J. McCann, Dr. Roy Lintner and Dr. Joseph Johns. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon from the residence of Frank Piper, near Woodard Lake, with Rev. Frank Loomis officiating. Burial will be at Woodard Lake cemetery. Besides his wife, Mrs. Alice Piper Branton, he is survived by three small children, Donald, Eleanor and Mary. Mr. Branton is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Branton, Port Huron.
