L. Bray, wife of a former pastor of the Portland Methodist church, died at Big Rapids last week and the remains were taken to South Bend for burial. Rev. Bray has been superintendent of the Big Rapids district and that city has been his home for several years. His wife was 73 years old. Mrs. Bray was born in England. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Slade. She became acquainted with Mr. Bray in the old country and two years after he had located in America she came here to become his bride. At the time of their marriage he was pastor at Mt. Pleasant. Other charges which he later held were Evart, Woodland, Orleans, Lowell, Portland, Quincy, Sturgis, Muskegon and Jackson. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. E. P. Bennett, whose husband is pastor of the M. E. church at Pontiac. A granddaughter and namesake is buried at South Bend, hence the selection of that city as a burial place. Miss Mable Stevens, of Portland, assisted in the care of Mrs. Bray during her last illness.
