Ionia Sentinel – 5 December 1983
U. Russell Breckon, 94, of Ionia died early Saturday morning in Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital.  He was born July 11, 1889, in Ionia, the son of Robert and 
Lovina Gable Breckon.  He attended schools in Ionia and also Ferris State 
College.  He was employed as a clerk in the freight office of Grand Trunk 
Railroad for 44 years before his retirement.  He was married in Ionia to the 
former Kathryn Stobridge on October 11, 1922, and they had observed their 61st 
anniversary in October.

He was a life member of lodge No. 36, F. & A. M., of Ionia; Royal Arch Masons, 
Chapter 14; and Ionia Commandery, No. 11.  He was also a member of Ferris 
State College’s Golden Eagle Club.  Surviving are his wife; one son, Russell, 
of Saranac; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 pm from the Leddick Funeral home, the 
Rev. john Sorensen of Ionia First united Methodist Church officiating.  Burial 
will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
