Breckon, 78, of Ionia died at 1:15 a.m. Friday at the cottage of his son, Royal Breckon, of Grand Rapids on Big Crooked Lake near Parnell following a three months illness. Mr. Breckon was born in Birmingham, England, December 23, 1860. He was taken to Scarborough, England, when he was a year old and there he served his apprenticeship in the plumbing business. In 1885 he came to the United States and settled in Ionia. He was a plumber in Ionia for many years and the Breckon and Gable business was located in the building now occupied by the Modern Shoe shop on West Main street. Mr. Breckon was also in the construction business and built about 30 houses in Ionia. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. Survivors are his wife, Katherine, four children by former marriages, Mrs. Anna Welles of Ionia, Mrs. Grace Sprague of Grand Rapids, Russell Breckon of Ionia, and Royal Breckon of Grand Rapids, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, Frank Breckon of Mishawaka, Ind., is the only survivor in the family of eight children. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Robert J. Breckon residence at 441 Harter street. Interment will be in the Highland Park cemetery.
