Mrs. John C. Briggs Dies Very Unexpectedly of Apoplexy. A Loving Sister, a Devoted Wife and Mother, a Kind Neighbor, a True Friend. In accordance with the wish of the deceased the funeral of Mrs. J. C. Briggs whose very sudden as well as very unexpected death we mentioned last week, was rather a private one held Saturday afternoon at the house, conducted by Rev. Joseph C. Cook of the Methodist church, the choir also of that church furnishing the music. Interment was made in Lakeside cemetery. The eight children living two of whom live near Pelliston in the northern part of the state, were all in attendance at the funeral, also a sister Mrs. Fred Myers from near Findley, Ohio as well as a goodly number of the old neighbors and friends from Sunfield. Nice floral offerings were sent from Sunfield, Lansing and Detroit. Obituary Miss Sansana Gault was born in Wayne county, Ohio, Oct. 13, 1836 and died at her home in Lake Odessa, Mich., April 24, 1907. Age 70 years, 6 months and 11 days. Miss Gault married Mr. John C. Briggs in July 1851. They moved to Michigan in 1865 and settled on a farm in Sebewa, where they resided until they moved to Sunfield about 13 years since. Five years ago this month Mr. Briggs closed his earthly pilgrimage and for the last three years Mrs. Briggs has resided here in Lake Odessa. To Mr. and Mrs. Briggs were born twelve children eight daughters and four sons, all of whom, save one son who died in infancy, grew to womanhood and manhood. In the second generation of their descendants are twenty grandchildren. The deceased is survived by two brothers and one sister Mrs. Fred Myers of Hancock Co. near Findley, Ohio three sons, George and Wm. Briggs, both of Lake Odessa and Chas. Briggs of Pelliston, Mich., also by five daughters, viz., Mrs. Geo. Smith of Sunfield, Mrs. H. G. Miller of Lansing, Mrs. Delbert Canute of Pelliston, Mrs. Alvin Smelker, Lake Odessa, and Miss Minnie Briggs of Detroit, all of whom, with many neighbors and friends, in the sudden death of Mrs. Briggs are made to mourn respectively the loss of a loving sister, a devoted mother, a kind neighbor and a true friend. Mrs. Briggs’ journey through life has been of light and shadow. Great responsibilities have been resting on her. She has toiled hard and while her death was a startling surprise, because of the promise of years yet to be added to her life made by her health and strength, she lived to twice the age of the average life in our country and her last days were apparently restful and peaceful. Long will her memory be cherished and especially so by her children who will ever think of her love for them and her readiness and willingness to help them.
