Portland Observer, 9 Jul 1890

Last Saturday night as Wm. Briggs, who lived upon the old Hart farm in Danby, 
was returning home from Portland, it is supposed he fell asleep and the horses 
starting up threw him to the ground, as an examination made by Drs. Snyder of 
Sebewa and Dellenbaugh of this place revealed the fact that the wheels had 
passed over his chest, producing internal injuries of which he died Monday 
forenoon.

Mr. Briggs had been to Portland all day Saturday and visited the saloons 
several times, so that by the time he started for home he is said to have been 
considerably under the influence of liquor.  He was a man without a family and 
had lived in this vicinity for many years.
