Nov. 15—The strange death of 11-year-old Thomas Briggs was being investigated today to learn whether he had strangled himself with a sweater, drawn tightly about his throat, or if he had been slain. His body was found by his stepfather, Burr Betts, last night, half reclining at the foot of a bed in an upstairs room of his home. Betts said the boy had returned from school, where he is in the fifth grade, had played about the house for a while, apparently in good spirits, then disappeared. Finally, the stepfather said, he became worried over his protracted absence, and set out to find him. Although Coroner Roy Gorsline said he inclined to the suicide theory, there was no apparent motive as members of the family said the boys school work was satisfactory, and he seemed happy. A post-mortem examination was to be conducted this morning. Note: Local researcher has noted burial was in Highland Park Cemetery, Ionia County, Michigan, Section 5.
