Mrs. J. C. Briggs, mother of George and William Briggs of this village also of 
Mrs. Alvin Smelker, died very suddenly about 9 o’clock Wednesday evening at 
her home corner of third street and fifth avenue, apoplexy being attributed as 
the cause.  Mrs. Briggs had been in fairly good health along back until on 
Tuesday while washing she was taken suddenly ill, not seriously so however.  
On the evening of her death her daughter Mrs. Smelker and Mrs. Geo. Kart were 
there and all were visiting in a very quiet way.  Mrs. Briggs herself seeming 
to be feeling almost well and enjoying the social time fully as much as the 
other two ladies, when all of a sudden she complained of a severe pain in her 
head and e’er her daughter could reach her bedside, she was gone.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1:30 at the house.
