Briggs, aged 79 years, at his home on Kenwood avenue. Mr. Briggs was discovered dead in his bed at about 6:30 Saturday morning and it was thought that he must have been dead for perhaps four hours at the time his death was notices. Mr. Briggs had been an invalid for the past four years and two months, at which time he suffered a stroke of paralysis. For the past two and one-half years he had been confined to his bed, suffering patiently and gradually declining in his condition until it was realized that the battle could not last much longer. Mr. Briggs was born in Indiana on October 26, 1856. He was married first to Miss Mary Westover, who preceded him in death many years ago, leaving the one son, who had been born to the union, Alton, who always made his home with his grandparents at Greenville. He was married to Miss Fleta Hanks, who together with three children born to the union, Hobart and Cecil, of this city and a daughter, Mrs. Eloise Peekham, of Greenville, survive Mr. Briggs had been a resident of this city for more than 45 years and followed the carpenter and contracting trade for a number of years, building some of the best houses in the city. For many years he was a foreman in factory “A” of the old Belding-Hall company, remaining in the service of that company until it went out of business several years ago. Mr. Briggs was a highly esteemed citizen, whose passing, even at the ripe age which he had reached, will be learned of with regret. Funeral services were held at the residence at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon with Rev. Floyd Cramer, of the Methodist church officiating, and burial was in the old Belding cemetery.
