Ionia Weekly Standard, 7 Feb 1890

Palo – We regret to chronicle the death of Mr. Sidney Briggs, which occurred
Monday evening.  Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon at the M.E.
church, conducted by the Rev. O. J. Golden.  Mr. Briggs was a jovial good
natured man – honest and honorable in his deal, a good neighbor and a good
citizen.  He will be sadly missed in his family and the community generally. 
Mr. Briggs was noted for being the largest man in this vicinity, weighing more
than 300 lbs.  His age was 64.  He leaves a wife, two sons and daughter.
