Briggs, 41, a former Lake Odessa man, met his death Thursday, August 5 by electrocution at a suburb of New York City. The news came here the latter part of the week but the body did not arrive until Sunday morning. Mr. Briggs was sent there from West Allis, Wisconsin, where he has been employed as electrical engineer by the Allis Chalmers Co. for nearly fifteen years, to pass final inspection on a large installation of electrical machinery and had the inspection and tryouts completed and was at the depot to depart for his home when some parts failed to operate satisfactorily so he was asked to return to the plant and in some manner came in contact with too high a voltage. Guy attended the Lake Odessa high school, then took up work with the Thornapple Gas and Electric Co. here. He then went to Washington, D. C. where he attended an electrical engineering school, graduating in that special line of work, and returned to take up work again with the same company at Hastings. Later he took a position in Philadelphia, PA, from which place he took the position with the Allis Chalmers Co. He leaves the wife and a 15-year-old daughter Nedra, also the father William Briggs of Grand Rapids and two sisters, Mrs. W. R. Amon of 436 Stors Street, Grand Rapids, and Mrs. J. I. Harwood of Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of the Elks and Masonic lodges. The funeral was held at the Congregational church of this place Sunday afternoon, burial at Lakeside, with a Masonic service both at the church and grave. He was born in Orange township. The deceased leaves a host of friends who in token of their love and friendship brought one of the finest and largest displays of beautiful flowers that was ever seen here. He was a self made man working his own way in securing the fine position that he held wit his company and was considered one of the most able and valuable men with the company. The following from away were here in attendance at the funeral: William Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Amon and two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Rittenger, and Mr. and Mrs. Claud Stuart, all of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Duncan of Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Smelker, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Brower, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Foreman of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Miller of Lansing, H.
