Brindle, 87, of Ionia, died Tuesday morning, August 1, at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. The son of Daniel F. and Sarah A. (Sickafus) Brindle, he was born July 4, 1902 in Columbia, Ind. He attended school in Roanoke, Ind. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1921 and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired from the Navy in 1943 and then worked for the defense plant (A.C. Spark Plug) for the rest of the war. He later worked as an Ionia police officer, Ionia County undersheriff and the Ionia State Hospital, retiring from the State Hospital around 1966. He was a member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge #36, the Disabled American Veterans and the Ionia VFW. He is survived by his wife Mildred; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Polly (Hafner) Brindle of Ionia; three granddaughters and two great-grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Dolores Thomas of Florida and Mrs. Marie Layman of Sturgis; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by nine brother and sisters. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the First Christian Church of Ionia with the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating. Thelma Walkington will serve as organist. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home.
