The Lake Odessa Wave, February 27, 1902


Last week’s issue of the Wave chronicled the death of Frank Brisben, who had 
passed away Wednesday evening February 18, in the prime of his manhood.  
During the time of his severe illness he had the best of care and nursing but 
when the crisis came the change was for the worst and death claimed him for 
its own.  

The funeral arrangements as made by the Odd Fellows placed the hour at 10 
o’clock Sunday at the U. B. church, but by some oversight it appeared in the 
Wave at 11 o’clock.  This announcement made some delay in carrying out the 
funeral obsequeties but nothing of a serious nature.  

Mr. Brisben has lived in this vicinity for many years and had a large circle 
of friends and was well thought of for his industry and sobriety.  He was an 
active member of Lake Odessa Lodge I.O.O.F., No. 429 and held many important 
positions in the lodge.  He had often expressed a wish to be buried according 
to the ritual of Odd Fellowship, and his wishes were respected by his brothers 
in the lodge.  His remains were escorted from his home by 80 members of his 
lodge and the services were conducted by Rev. Druler.  The church had been 
tastily decorated by the Rebekahs and the casket was covered by a profusion of 
flowers, the gift of his brother Odd Fellows.  The church was full to 
overflowing and many were unable to gain admittance.

From the church the funeral cortege wended its way to Lakeside Cemetery, where 
the last sad rites were performed that consigned brother Brisben to his final 
resting place.
