BRISBIN AN ODESSA PIONEER ------------- HELPED CLEAR UNBROKEN WILDERNESS JUST WEST OF LAKE ODESSA. LATER MOVED TO CARLTON. DIED DECEMBER 11 ------------ Charles E. Brisbane who has lived on the farm known as the David Williams farm in Carlton township for the past twenty-nine years, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 1937. He came with his parents from near Waterloo, Lenawee county, Michigan, when a child of nine or ten years of age, making the trip with a neighbor who helped to move the stock to the new home, one-half mile west of Lake Odessa, then an unbroken wilderness. At that time the road now M-50, was a rudely blazed trail as were any other roads in this section. OBITUARY Charles Ezekial Brisbin, son of George and Margaret Ann Swarthout was born December 8, 1854 and departed this life December 3, 1937, aged 83 years and three days. He was married to M. Augusta Vicent, May 17, 1892. To this union were born two children George V. Brisbin of Coats Grove and Margaret Alice Blumer who resides on the homestead in Carlton township, and one step- son of Jensen, Fla., seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandson Charles John Vincent of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers William H. Brisbin, Lipden J. Brisbin; and one sister Pheobe J Woodard, all of Ionia; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. He was a kind and thoughtful husband and father, an accommodating neighbor and greatly respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him best. ------------ CARD OF THANKS We desire to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness and assistance at the time of the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father.
