He was born in Betley, Staffordshire England, April 3, 1810, and was one of seven children of John and Jane Broad, only one of whom survives, Viz: Charles Broad, of Owosso, Mich., the youngest, who was here to attend the funeral. George Broad was married in 1838 to Isabel Kidd, by whom there were born to him four children, all deceased except one son - Charles Broad of this city. Deceased came to America in 1857, coming directly to Ionia, where his wife died Jan. 6, 1887. Mr. Broad came home the day before Christmas, sick. He had been spending the winter with his Lowell friends, who were distant relatives, and he returned there May 25. His death resulted from old age and dropsy. During the years of his residence here Mr. Broad has been a respected citizen. Until he became too infirm to engage in active labor he was an expert gardener and many of the grounds about the city were beautified by his hands. His funeral was attended from the Episcopal church in this city on Tuesday, Rev. J.S. Large officiating. The interment was at Highland Park.
