The Belding Banner, Thursday, October 17, 1907

The death of Mrs. Ruth Ann Broas occurred at the old homestead in this city 
Monday morning about nine o’clock when she sank peacefully away, into the 
sleep that knows no waking.

The deceased was one of the much loved and respected pioneers of this city 
having lived here and occupied her late residence for more than a half 
century, with her husband Levi Broas, who preceded her in death about 5 years 
ago.  She was the daughter of James and Jane Just and was born in Antrim 
County Ireland, April 5th, 1832 and came to New York with her parents when she 
was four years old.  In 1844 they moved to Michigan and settled on the farm 
now owned by E. R. Spencer two miles south of this city.  In 1849 she was 
united to Levi Broas.

Four children survive her, Catherine Hill and Belle Mann of Belding, Charles 
Broas of Lansing and J. Just Broas of Bay city.  

The funeral services were held at the old home where she had lived so long and 
loved so well, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. …(illegible)….preaching a brief and 
appropriate sermon.  Mrs. H. A. Lamb sang “Some Time We’ll Understand,” 
and “One Sweetly Solemn Thought,” accompanied by Miss Imogene Ireland at the 
organ.  Many beautiful white flowers covered the casket which was borne to 
River Ridge cemetery b the pall bearers, Edwin R. Spencer, Chas. G. O. Bryon, 
L. H. Weeks, H. A. Lamb, J. D. Morse and E. C. Lloyd.

Thus has passed in the 76th year of her age a most exalted character and one 
of the oldest residents of our city.
