BROCK WELL KNOWN IONIAN, DEAD Loren Phillip Brock, 87, former Ionia newspaper publisher and former Ionia county register of deeds, died about 1 o'clock Monday morning at his home at 409 Union street after six years illness. Six years ago Mr. Brock fractures his hip and two years ago fractured (about two lines cannot be deciphered) has been confined to a wheel chair since. Born January 20, 1854, near Union Springs, New York, the son of Benjamin and Christiana Brock and one of nine children. Mr. Brock came with his parents to Ann Arbor where he attended high school. In 1872 he moved to Muir where his father was engaged in the mercantile business. In 18778 Mr. Brock moved to Ionia where he founded and edited the Ionia National, a weekly newspaper. Shortly afterward, Mr. Brock was elected county register of deeds and was the first register of deeds of the county to occupy the then new court house. Mr. Brock was married to Bertha Edith Milligan, of Ionia, April 17, 1883. For many years Mr. Brock owned and operated a shoe store in Ionia until 1919 and for the past 22 years had been retired. His wife was active in DAR and the Ionia county park bears her name as a reward for her work in gathering historical data of the county. Mrs. Brock died in 1933. Surviving are two children, a son, Stuart Brock, of Ionia and a daughter, Gertrude Edith Brock Clark, of Iowa City, Iowa, and three grandchildren, Stuart Philip Elizabeth and Gertrude Joan Brock. Funeral services have been tentatively arranged for Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Sentinel-Standard - Thursday, May 15, 1941 LOREN PHILIP BROCK Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the home at 409 Union street for Loren Philip Brock, 87-year-old former Ionia county official who died Monday at his home. Rev. Otto Nielson, of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Greenville, officiated at the service. Interment was at Highland Park cemetery. Bearers were Frederick Goodrich, Chandler Haight, John Beattie, Elmer Cowan, John Toutenhoofd, and Allen Williams.
