December 31, 2010 Margaret Grace (Balduf) Brodbeck LAKE ODESSA, MI - Margaret Grace (Balduf) Brodbeck of Lake Odessa, departed this world peacefully in the presence of her loving children on December 22, 2010, to be with her honey in heaven and the Lord Jesus Christ. The fifth child of William and Crystal (Huntington) Balduf. Margaret was born on August 24, 1930 on their farm eight mile northeast of Lake Odessa. While attending Lake Odessa High School, Margaret met her honey and love of her life, Willard "Bill" Brodbeck. She was only 15, he was 23, and so he had to wait until after she graduated in 1948 until they could marry. Margaret and Bill had their wedding, which was the first candlelight wedding at Zion Lutheran Church n Woodland, on March 6, 1949. Together they started a successful dairy business that grew and flourished for over 30 years until Bill's retirement from milking. Over the years, Margaret was a faithful and energetic member of Zion Lutheran Church through her involvement and leadership in Women's Circle group, choir, Sunday School teaching, quilt making, and funerary luncheons. She was always there when the women did the spring and fall cleaning too. Margaret truly loved her Lord. Margaret and Bill were active in the Timberland Farm Bureau Group. For many years, she provided a Christmas dinner for them at their home. For over a decade,Margaret was a volunteer aid at Hastings' Pennock Hospital. After she left, she continued her charity by baking pies for their fundraisers; her elderberry pie was most notable. Margaret was involved with the Woodland's Women's Study Club and recently volunteered at Sunny Crest Youth Ranch in Sunfield. Margaret was a women of integrity and had enormous energy. In addition to raising seven children, she cared for the young livestock, was a gifted gardener, and provided for the family by preserving the produce and making wonderful meals. A woman who thought of others, there would be always room for more guest at mealtime. In her prime, Margaret Brodbeck could get more accomplished before 10 a.m. than most people could get done all day! After Bill retired from milking, they grew sweet corn from a patch by their house and sold it in their front yard on M-66. They developed many loyal customers who came back years after year regarding their corn as the best. Canasta was the favorite family game, always boy verses girls - girls usually won! Margaret Brodbeck was know to be hard working, caring, sensitive, generous, and strong willed. She was a fantastic person, inspiring to many, and will be sorely missed.
