Brokaw, 82, of 521 Pearl St., Belding, died Monday, Dec 3, 1990, at United Memorial Hospital Long Term Care unit. She was born June 10, 1908, in Standish, the daughter of Grant and Clara Yarger Musser. She was a resident of Putnam County, Ohio, before attending Taylor University. She studied music at Defiance College in Ohio, and in 1932 graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. On Sept. 13, 1933, she married the Rev. Luther Brokaw in Boston, Mass. Active in churches where he served in the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher for 47 years, organized three junior choirs and was active in the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Brokaw is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. David (Mary Beth) Knudson of Flint, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Barker, Belding; nine grandchildren, Edward, Roger and Brenda Coles; Charles Jr., Martin, Andrew, Kevin, Amy and Allison Barker. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Sarah Musser, Greenville, Helen Musser, Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Gordon and Ray Musser. Funeral and committal services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Belding, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ted Cole and the Rev. Molly Turner, district superintendent. Burial is in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation at Huffman Funeral Home, Belding, is today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church organ fund or Appalachian Missions.
