Brooks, 84, formerly of 222 North Dexter street, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Neal Palen at Rives Junction. Mr. Brooks and his wife, Mildred, have resided with their daughter since June 20. He was born September 11, 1874 in Clay county, Ill., the son of William and Priscilla Brooks. He attended watch repair school in Chicago, Ill., moved to Detroit and later moved to Ionia where he was employed with Krainbrink and Fuller as a watch maker. Later he operated his own Time Shop on Main street until his retirement in 1940. He was a member of the First Christian church of Ionia and the Ionia lodge 36 F&AM. Mr. Brooks was married to Alice Tomkinson who preceded him in death. He was later married to Mildred Voigtlander. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Neal (Evelyn) Palen; two sons, Waldo Brooks , East Lansing, and Wendell of Dearborn; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Floyd Emshwiller officiating. Burial will be at Balcom cemetery.
