Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 16 Apr 1919

Mrs. Margaret Brooks, whose funeral took place Tuesday afternoon … [missing
words].  She was born in 1828 in Genese Co., N.Y., and came to Ionia county in
1845 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Weeks, who settled on the State road,
3 miles north of Ionia.

Margaret was a beautiful girl, the 3d eldest of 9 children and the last to
marry.  It was said of her that she would never marry owing to her exactness. 
She, however, never failed to do her duty – helping bear the family burdens and
at 40 married a bachelor one year her senior, Wm. Brooks, a respected citizen
who came to this county from Jefferson, N.Y.

This union was an unusually happy one.  Three children came to gladden their
lives, one having died in infancy, the second, W.W. Brooks, at whose home the
deceased had made her home since the death of her husband, and the third
daughter, who grew to womanhood, married and then passed on to the great beyond
leaving a baby boy, Ralph F. Lee, who is now on his way home from France.

The passing of Mrs. Brooks closes another chapter in the annals of our early
pioneers.  She was always a consistent beautiful character.  The writer of this
brief review recalls with pleasure the many times the deceased, when in ordinary
conversation would say: “I’ll tell you a secret for keeping young, Don’t Worry!
 Worry will kill any one!  Just trust.”  And I judge her prescription was good
for up to the day of her death she dressed herself and walked about cheerful as
of old.
