The old lady, who was frail and lived alone, had not been seen by anyone since Tuesday evening, and when Charles M. Harrington brought to her house a crock of butter on Friday afternoon, and failed to get a response to his knock, he broke in, and found the old lady dead. She had evidently been preparing for bed, the house being carefully locked, and she was undressed and in her night clothing. Mr. Harrington immediately telephoned Sheriff Hoppough, who summoned Mathew Bradley as coroner. It was known that Mrs. Brooks was a sufferer from heart trouble, and it was owing to that and her advanced age that death was due. She lost her husband, Milton Brooks, about six years ago, and had no children. Her nephew, Harry Brooks, took dinner with her on Sunday, and found her feeling not very well. The fact that three days’ mail had accumulated in the mail box, showed that it had not been visited since Tuesday, and corroborates the neighbors’ testimony that she had not been seen since Tuesday evening. Her nearest surviving relatives are two nieces, Mrs. William Shank, of Marion, and Mrs. Florence Herron of Greenville, and two nephews, Harry Brooks, of Ionia, and Louis Woods of Hersey. She was also a connection of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Brooks, Mrs. Julian Brooks and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Z. Brooks of Ionia. The funeral will be held on Sunday at two o’clock at the Bradley mortuary, and at 2:30 at the Church of Christ, Rev. Garrard officiating and interment will be in the family lot at Oak Hill.
