Brooks, aged 74 years, seven months and four days, died Sunday morning at his home in Danby township, following an illness of about two years. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Beacock, pastor of Sebewa church. Burial was made in Danby cemetery. Mr. Brooks was born in Connecticut and came with his parents to Portland when a small lad. The family settled on the farm on the Mulliken road now occupied by Ben York, which is still known as the old Chas. Brooks’ farm. On April 2, 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Hair, and on the second of last April the couple, together with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Towner, celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries, both couples having been married in Danby township on the same day. Following his marriage Mr. Brooks took his bride to a farm in southwest Danby, where he became known as one of the best and most prosperous farmers in that vicinity. For a number of years he combined the insurance business with that of farming, acting as agent for the Ionia Mutual Fire Insurance company. Besides the wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ray Petrie, and two sons, Roland and Charles, all of Danby.
