He had been in failing health for the past four days but was taken seriously ill with heart trouble two days ago. He was born in Ionia township July 7, 1860, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Brooks, early pioneers of that township. He has always resided in Ionia township and attended the Welch school as a boy. He was married in 1913 to Ella Badder Hubbard, of Grand Rapids, and for the past 22 years he and Mrs. Brooks have resided in the same house on East Main street. For a number of years Mr. Brooks was a farmer in Ionia township. He was one of a family of seven children and his six brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by the widow; two stepsons, Ward Hubbard and Frank Hubbard, of Grand Rapids; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Etta Lanz, of Belding; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the Stone funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Paul L. Stewart, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
