Ionia Daily Sentinel – 28 January 1963
Mrs. Bertha R. Brooks, 64, of route two, Lake Odessa, died unexpectedly at 
2:30 Friday morning at Bradenton, Fla., where she went several weeks ago with 
her husband, Dewey to spend the winter.  Mrs. Brooks was born March 27, 1898 
in Odessa Township, the daughter of Frank and Edna Arnold Bippley, and 
graduated from Lake Odessa high school in 1916.  February 9, 1918 she was 
married to Dewey Brooks and at the time of her death, lived one-half mile from 
her birthplace.  She had spent all her life in Odessa Township.  She was a 
member of Sebewa Baptist church.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Guilford of 
Lansing; a son, Robert Brooks, a sister, Mrs. Walter Warner and a brother, 
Donald Bippley, all of Lake Odessa; and six grandchildren.  Funeral service 
will be held at Pickens funeral chapel at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. 
Robert Wessel officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery.
