Girtha Mae Brooks, 97, of Belding, passed away Thursday morning, December 30, 
2004 at Metron of Belding Nursing Home.  She was born on July 29, 1907 in 
Belding, the daughter of Rufus M. and Margaret A. Horn Sower.

Girtha was a member of Shiloh Community Church, order of the Eastern Star Doric 
Chapter No. 75, White Shrine and Grange Hall of Ronald Township.

She was married on November 21, 1923 in Belding to Clarence Brooks and he 
preceded Girtha on August 27, 1998.  She was also preceded by her brothers; 
Henry, Edgar, Arthur, David, Charles, Glen and Pat, her sisters Clara Thompson, 
Franie Brooks and Mary Wiser.

Girtha is survived by her children J. Calvin and Ruth Brooks of Belding, Arthur 
and Jacqueline Brooks of Orleans and Lewis and Shirley Brooks of Belding.  She 
is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-
grandchildren, and her brother in law Willis Brooks of Muir and sister in law 
Cathleen Bauer of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral and Committal services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Community Church 
with Pastor Ken Harger officiating.  A luncheon will follow the service at the 
church.  An Eastern Star service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with 
visitation following from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 
Belding.

Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service.  Interment will 
be in Easton Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Community 
Church, Order of Eastern Star or Hospice.
