BROOKS LAKE ODESSA - Charles S. Brooks, 91, of Lake Odessa, died Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Provincial House in Hastings. He was born August 6, 1896, in Lake Odessa, the son of William, and Margaret (Check) Brooks. He attended Brown Rural School and served in the U.S. Army in World War I. He was married to Gaylia Klahn Meyers on August 5, 1943, in Woodland. He was employed by Warner Construction Company for several years, the Lake Odessa Co-Op Elevator and Reiser Elevator in Woodland, retiring in 1961. He was a member of the Woodland United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men's Club and the Woodland Nutritional Center. He was a past member of the International Order of Oddfellows. Survivors include his wife, Gaylia; four daughters, Marjorie Rarigh of Vermontville, Mary McHenry of Springport, Dawn Maynard of Potterville and Dixielee Crowell of Belding; three sons Marshall Meyers of Woodland, Marlin Meyers of Saranac and Kenneth Brooks of Lansing; 20 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. One son, Charles, and 11 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, from 2:30 - 6:30 P.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Koops Funeral in Lake Odessa. Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Keraten, officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Michigan United Methodist Conference Camp. .
