Eunice Brooks, aged 79 of Alamo Texas, formerly of Ionia, passed into glory with our Lord and Savior on August 12, 2004 in Muir after a brief battle with lung cancer. Eunice was born August 23, 1924 in Alexandria, Nebraska the daughter of Joseph D. and Verda Mae (Demoray) McGinness. She went on to marry Howard W. Brooks Jr. on September 1, 1945. During her retirement years Eunice spent the winter months in Alamo, Texas at Bibleville. While there she was very active with Angle Tree Ministry, volunteered in the kitchen at the Rio Grande Bible Institute. She tutored elementary aged children in reading and writing. She summered in the Ionia area enjoying time with her family and was an active member of the Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by her children Linda and Lee Cook of Florida and Ionia; Janet Brooks; Joseph Brooks; Jimmie Brooks all of Ionia, Cathy and David Harness of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada; Nancy and Martin Prebble of Muir; sisters Lyla Brown, Jospehine and Don Fitzgerald, Jeannie Mae Scoville; brother-in-law George Brooks; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years Howard, daughter Christie Brooks, grandson Bruce Cook, two brothers, Eugene and Donavan McGinness. Sister Twila Carlson and close friend Elmer White. Funeral services for Mrs. Brooks will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 3 p.m. at the Temple Baptist Church in Ionia, with Rev. Jim Houseman officiating. Interment is at Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
