Fatally injured and dying within two hours was Franie Brooks, 59, of route two, Belding. She died at Ionia County Memorial hospital at 6:02 p.m. Her injuries were listed as skull fracture, brain damage and chest injuries. Injured and taken to the hospital was Marcella Joy Boyden, 36, route two, Clarksville. She received minor lacerations of the arm and contusions on the arm and legs. State police said the two women were riding alone when their automobiles collided at the intersection of Hawley highway and Potters road at 4:10 Thursday afternoon. A witness to the collision said the Brooks car and stopped and then entered the intersection where it was struck broadside. The Boyden car was going south on Hawley highway and skidded 30 feet, officers said, before striking the other vehicle. Ned White and Jay Patterson, employees of Bell Telephone, were on the next intersection south a mile away and heard the screeching tires and crash when the vehicles collided. Mrs. Brooks was born in Otisco township June 26, 1904, and had lived in the Belding area all her life. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Rodarmer, Grand Rapids, Mrs. Beatrice Fancett, Jr., of Fenwick, and Mrs. Emma Carpenter, of Ellsworth; ; five sons, Asa J. Brooks of Sheridan, Millen of Ellsworth, Edgar of Fenwick, Eugene of Carson City, and Ronnie at home; 20 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Thompson of Lowell, and Mrs. Clarence Brooks of Sheridan; and one brother, Ellsworth Sower of Belding.
