Clarence A. Brooks, 95, of Belding, died today, August 27, 1998 at Metron of 
Belding.  He was born January 22, 1903 in Iowa, the son of J. Calvin and 
Nellie E. Taylor Brooks.  

He formerly was employed by Interstate Trucking Co. as a driver and also was a 
farmer for many years.  He retired in 1968.  He was a member of Shiloh 
Community Church, F&AM 355 of Belding, Ionia Elks 548, Grange Hall and the 
White Shrine. 

On November 21, 1923 in Belding he married Girtha Mae Sower.  She survives 
along with their children, J. Calvin and Ruth Brooks, Lewis and Shirley 
Brooks, all of Belding, Arthur and Jaqulyn Brooks of Orleans; 10 
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; one 
sister, Cathleen Bauer of Grand Rapids; and one brother, Willis Brooks of 
Muir.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert Brooks 
and Aza Brooks.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral home, 
Belding, with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating.  Interment will be in Easton 
Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Masonic services at 
7:30 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh 
Community Church or Belding Masonic Lodge.
