The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, October 1998
Mattie Karen Brooks, 63, of Ionia, passed away Saturday October 3, 1998 in 
Lansing.  She was born July 25, 1935 in Easton Township, the daughter of 
Samuel and Karen (Christensen) Nielsen.  She married Melvin Brooks February 
27, 1953 in Ionia.  He survives her in Ionia.  

She is also survived by one son, Samuel Howard Brooks of Ionia; daughter, Judy 
Kay Brooks of Palo; brother, Kent and Fern Nielsen of Lake Odessa; sister, 
Dorothy Bennett of Orleans, and Margaretta (Pete) and George Chickering of 
Fenwick; and six grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother and 
one sister.

Graveside services for Mrs. Brooks will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Tuttle Cemetery 
with Robert Chapin officiating.  Arrangements are by Lake Funeral Home, Ionia.
